LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Second graders at Fern Creek Elementary School received brand new bikes donated by a national nonprofit.
Wish For Wheels, a nonprofit focused on empowering students and promoting health habits, gifted over 200 bikes to the school.
Every second grader received their own bike and helmet.
Adrianne Tytus, principal of Fern Creek Elementary, said she hopes the bikes not only help the kids exercise more, but also build more independence.
"When I talked to my kids, they talked about riding around their neighborhood, they talked about riding to the library," Tytus said. "Some of them even live really close to Fern Creek, so they're then going to be able to even ride to the park and come through the fence to our campus."
Wish for Wheels, based in Colorado, has donated bikes to more than 99,000 students nationwide.
