LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A one-time, popular attraction near Mammoth Cave went from Guntown Mountain to Funtown Mountain, then it went into foreclosure.
Now, the property is being sold in an auction this month.
The man behind Why Louisville - Will Russell - had planned to revitalize the Barren County attraction. He renamed it Funtown Mountain, but things didn't go as planned.
Funtown Mountain opened in June of 2015, but closed later that year after Russell ran into legal and financial problems and missed loan payments.
Cave City officials shut down Funtown Mountain in September. A code enforcement officer said the roadside attraction had become a public safety hazard with broken windows and doors and no electricity running due to unpaid bills.
Russell dealt with some personal issues and then decided to close his Why Louisville stores.
Shortly afterward, the state foreclosed on his property in Barren County.
Guntown Mountain first opened in 1969 on Huckleberry Knob Road in Cave City. The 25+ acre site includes a gift shop and craft shops, a former indoor putt-putt golf building, a haunted hotel attraction, and a chair lift at the bottom of Guntown Mountain.
The attraction will be sold to the highest bidder Wednesday, April 20.
Those interested can tour the property a week earlier on April 13.
