LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A tribute honoring fallen U.S. service members is on display in Elizabethtown through Memorial Day weekend.
The Gold Star Tribute Wall is open around the clock through Monday at 1 p.m. at the Elizabethtown Nature Park. The memorial honors service members killed during the Gulf War and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Organizers said the wall is meant to ensure those sacrifices are never forgotten.
Janet Crane lost her son, Jason Edens, in 2012 after he died from injuries in Afghanistan. She said seeing his name on the wall alongside thousands of others is deeply meaningful.
"My son's name is on this wall along with a lot of friends, sons and daughters, brothers and sisters," Crane said. "There's 7,200 names on this wall, so it's very precious for me to be able to see this wall in person."
An official memorial ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday.
