LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The Belle of Louisville is back on top, winning the 63rd Great Steamboat Race as thousands lined the Ohio River for the Kentucky Derby Week tradition.

"Congratulations to the Belle of Louisville on a great return to the river," Matt Gibson, president and CEO of the Kentucky Derby Festival, said in a news release Wednesday. "The Shepherd Insurance Great Steamboat Race is a Derby Week favorite. It’s a mix of tradition, rivalry and a little bit of shenanigans that keeps fans cheering on the boats the whole race."

The race has been a staple of the Kentucky Derby Festival since 1963, drawing thousands each year to celebrate Louisville's riverfront history and Derby season traditions.

Organizers said the event remains a fan favorite, blending friendly competition with a scenic backdrop along the waterfront.
