LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Ten historic statues returned to the Louisville Water Tower on Tuesday.

Crews hoisted up the statues and securely fasten them back to where they belong. The statues were removed in 2020 and taken to Washington, D.C. for restoration. Prior to 2020, the statues hadn't been touched since 1990.

The statues, which were installed in the early 1900s, remained in storage until work was finished on the tower. The tower and building are national landmarks.

The building is no longer used to pump water, but it was the original facility in 1860.

"We are just really excited that these are the final touchdowns to reopening the facility," said Channa Newman with Louisville Water. "Just really excited to share this space back with the community."

The construction has been part of a three-year project. The tower is the oldest ornamental tower in the U.S.
