LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Hundreds of toys were delivered to Norton Children's Hospital Monday afternoon to brighten the holidays for every child there.

Each patient received a Christmas present thanks to a longstanding tradition by local Fraternal Order of Police groups.

The 28-year tradition is completely funded by donations and Louisville Metro Police officers, both active and retired.

One volunteer said it was especially important to him since his granddaughter spent several Christmases at Norton Children's Hospital.

"I remember one thing my granddaughter said, she wanted to know if Santa knew where she would be, of course we said he would," said William Wahl. "We spent two or three Christmases in the hospital, and it was important that people understand their gifts and the importance of volunteering."

The president of River City FOP said they're always grateful to take extra gifts home because it means a child was discharged from the hospital.
