LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Indiana's Attorney General now is getting involved in the Jamey Noel investigation.

Attorney General Todd Rokita filed documents Friday trying to get back public funds Jamey Noel is accused of stealing to fund his lavish lifestyle. Rokita also filed a restraining order asking a judge to freeze Jamey Noel's assets.

Jamey Noel is facing 25 felony charges, accused of racking up millions of dollars on trips, expensive clothes, jewelry, school tuition and even cars.

Indiana State Police said Jamey Noel bought a 1970 Chevrolet Corvette and another vintage car in 2018 using a Utica Township Fire Department credit card for the down payment.

Rokita claims since Jamey Noel used public money for that spending, the state deserves to get it back.

In addition to Jamey Noel being named in the court documents filed by Rokita, the state is also trying to get back public funds that were paid to Kenneth Hughbanks and his companies. In the court documents, funds from the Clark County Sheriff's Department Jail Commissary Fund were paid to one of Hughbanks' companies - Hughbanks Enterprises, LLC - ranging from $1,500 to $3,500 per month, from December 2015 to October 2022.

Because of the misspending of the Jail Commissary Fund, Jamey Noel is asked to pay back nearly $500,000, and Hughbanks is asked to pay back almost $300,000. They both also have to cover the cost of the Indiana State Board of Accounts audit of the Commissary Fund, which is an additional $145,000.

This money is in addition to the $4.4 million Jamey Noel is being ordered to pay back to New Chapel EMS.

Rokita also filed a restraining order on Friday to freeze Jamey Noel's assets, saying Jamey Noel and his wife Misty Noel, who is also facing charges, sold one of their homes in Jeffersonville in March after they both were criminally charged. Also since being charged, Rokita said Misty Noel has tried to sell 21 vehicles she co-owns with Jamey Noel. The restraining order would prevent them from selling those properties in addition to vehicles, jewelry and artwork.

This newest court filing by Rokita comes on the heels of ISP investigators seizing several items from Jessica Huffman this week, former Clark County chief deputy auditor. Police said Noel and Huffman were in a relationship, and they found text messages between the two about the pension status of Noel's brother-in-law.
