LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Indiana State Police is still looking to hire troopers amid a staffing shortage.

ISP is about 200 troopers short after retirements, resignations and fewer applicants in recent years.

ISP Sgt. Carey Huls said around 500 people have applied for positions, but, in years past, that number typically would be in the thousands.

ISP recently increased salaries. Position salaries now range from $70,000 to $112,000 a year with a $5,000 signing bonus. Applicants must be at least 21 years old with a GED or high school diploma and live in Indiana to apply. The application deadline is Oct. 18, 2023.
