LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville family has Johnny Cash to thank for winning $100,000 by playing the Kentucky Lottery.

Janita Carter, her husband and son picked out a $5 Ring of Fire Scratch-off ticket on Dec. 29 from a gas station on Blanton Lane off St. Andrews Church Road. The family are fans of Johnny Cash and his song "Ring of Fire," which was one of the biggest hits in his career.

Carter said she liked the name of the ticket, so they purchased the lottery chance.

"It was exciting," she said to lottery officials.

"I was waiting for Ashton Kutcher to jump out of a cooler or something, there was so much excitement," her son said.

Her son asked if she scratched the right spot.

Carter matched the number 28 to win the game's $100,000 top prize.

They visited lottery headquarters a few days later to claim their prize. They play various Kentucky Lottery games together.

Carter received $72,000 after taxes. She said they hope to move and buy a car with the winnings.

"It’s not going to just go to us, we have people we love," Carter said.

Blanton Lane Shell will receive $1,000 for selling the winning ticket.
