LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Jefferson County Public School police officer jumped into action when he spotted a fire while leaving work.

JCPS School Resource Officer Bruce Turner was heading home Tuesday, Dec. 16 when he saw an apartment building on fire.

Turner said he saw a car had crashed into the building off Westport Road in east Louisville. He said he thinks it hit a gas line, sparking the fire.

Turner said he saw an officer running into the building and followed her, not wanting her to go in alone.

"I knew we needed to do something, I knew there was an officer up there," Turner said. "I wasn't going to let her go by herself. Once I saw that the conditions were getting worse, I knew I needed to find her. We need to go."

Officer Turner said he feels like anyone would have jumped into action like he did.

Louisville Metro Police said the building was evacuated, and no one inside was hurt.
