LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office has a new home.

Sheriff David James and local leaders cut the ribbon Wednesday on the department's new headquarters on West Market Street.

For more than 75 years, the sheriff's office operated behind Metro Hall. The new building offers updated workspaces and dedicated training areas for deputies — an upgrade they didn't have before.

One of those training rooms is named in honor of former Sheriff John Aubrey, who led the department for 28 years and passed last month.

"It has his picture on the wall and it's our way of honoring his legacy," said James, who was appointed by Mayor Craig Greenberg following Aubrey's passing.

Officials said the move gives deputies the space and resources they've long needed to better serve the county.
