LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Congressman Morgan McGarvey, fresh off his reelection win, honored local veterans in a ceremony.
Thursday, McGarvey gave special service pins to Vietnam War Veterans during a ceremony at the federal building downtown.
The pins are part of a congressional program started in 2012, recognizing people who served from 1955 to 1975.
McGarvey said even though they weren't welcomed when they came home, the Vietnam Veterans still showed gratitude toward our country.
"Unfortunately, they were not honored when they came home," McGarvey said. "My friends, they weren't welcome when they came home and while we can't fix that, we can apologize for it."
Congressman McGarvey represents Jefferson County and also serves on the House Veterans Affairs Committee.
