LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A London, Kentucky, couple claimed a $1.5 million top prize from the Kentucky Lottery and vowed to use their winnings to give back to their community.

The man told lottery officials in a news release Tuesday that he usually purchases $10 tickets at the counter but decided to change his routine and buy $20 Wild Cash 200X ticket from a vending machine.

After scratching the first two rows, he thought it might be a mistake. When he realized he had won the top prize, he became nervous about how to keep the ticket safe.

"What if I put it in my pocket and rub the numbers off? What if my truck gets stolen?" he joked.

Married for more than three decades, the couple said they plan to use the prize money to pay off their home and car, and possibly retire. They also want to give back to their community.

"I promised the Lord that if I ever won big, that I would help the elderly and children," the husband said.

The Kentucky Lottery launched its Wild Cash family of games June 26, with ticket prices ranging from $2 to $30. According to lottery officials, two $1.5 million top prizes remain for the $20 Wild Cash 200X game, along with five $20,000 prizes and 18 $5,000 prizes.
