LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Tuesday, May 13 is a big day for nonprofits in Kentucky. Kentucky Gives Day.

Kentucky Gives Day, in its 13th year, is a way to give back to organizations that give so much to the community. Organizers said nonprofits need the donations so they can keep fulfilling their missions.

Last year, Kentuckians donated more than $674,000 to 234 nonprofits during the 24-hour event. According to the Kentucky Nonprofit Network, 81 percent of all voters report trusting nonprofits to engage in nonpartisan advocacy and address needs the government cannot.

Sixty-six percent of these nonprofits are at financial risk due to funding cuts and pauses, which could have a major impact on the economic force in the state since one in 10 Kentuckians are employed by nonprofits.

Leaders at Isaiah House, which provides comprehensive treatment for people struggling with drug addiction, said any donation amount is welcome and goes a long way.

"We rely heavily on those donations for some of the basic needs that our clients have that aren't met by insurance or other payment methods, so simple things like toothbrushes, hygiene items, underwear, clothes, things like that that people take for granted," Tanner Blevins, Public Relations Director at Isaiah House, said.
