LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Kentucky man won $50,000 on a Kentucky Lottery Millionaire Club Scratch-off ticket he bought one day on the way to work.
Kentucky Lottery officials said in a news release Tuesday that Cord Brearton, of Willisburg, Kentucky, stopped on his way to work last month at a convenience store Springfield. He said the scratch-off game stood out to him because it was ticket "001" on the roll.
Brearton told Kentucky Lottery officials he planned to go half-and-half on the ticket with a friend, but his friend told him to go for it himself. So Brearton bought the $50 ticket and scratched it off right there in the store.
"I scratched the first bonus, and it was a loser," Brearton told Kentucky Lottery officials. "Then I scratched the second bonus, and it said I won $10,000! I scanned the barcode (on the vending machine), and it said I won $50,000! I couldn’t believe it."
Brearton said he sent pictures of the winning ticket to friends and posted it on social media as well.
After taxes, he took home $36,000, which he said he plans to use to buy a truck so he can put in more hours at work.
