LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Kentucky foster care organization is looking for people to volunteer on their review board.
The Citizens Foster Care Review Board announced Tuesday they are looking for people to assist in reviewing foster care cases in 54 counties across the state.
Volunteers will review the cases of children that were placed in foster or other out-of-home care and make recommendations to the courts and Cabinet for Health and Family Services on the child's behalf.
This include cases of children in vulnerable situations that were removed from their homes due to dependency, neglect and abuse.
The announcement comes during National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Organizers emphasized the role the community has in protecting Kentucky children.
"By volunteering with a CFCRB board, community members can play a direct role in improving outcomes for children in foster care," said CFCRB State Vice Chair Mika Tyler. "National Child Abuse Prevention Month reminds us that protecting children is a shared responsibility."
CFCRB volunteers typically review cases virtually one day each month, with meeting times varying by board.
Applicants must complete an application, pass criminal background and Central Registry checks and finish six hours of initial training. The training includes two Zoom sessions and two self-paced modules. Those interested are encouraged to apply as soon as possible to allow time for screening and scheduling.
After completing training, volunteers are recommended by the CFCRB to the chief judge of the local Family or District Court for official appointment.
