LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Lawrenceburg nurse was exhausted after working back-to-back shifts, but stayed up just long enough to win more than a quarter of a million dollars by playing the Kentucky Lottery.
The woman, who asked to remain anonymous, was playing Kentucky Lottery's Online Instant Play game Coins of the Titans.
"I’m a nurse and had just gotten done working back-to-back shifts so I was exhausted," the woman said to lottery officials. "I started playing to just zone out before bed."
She hit the bonus on the game shortly after she started playing.
"I saw stars coming down, so I knew it was a big win," she said. "They kept falling and I knew what that meant. I couldn’t believe it."
She won $277,183.75.
"I was wide awake," she said.
She woke up her husband, and he had a hard time believing it.
"Are you sure," he asked.
The Anderson County couple has been playing the Kentucky Lottery for several years. They haven't won anything big before.
"I kept checking my email to make sure it was real," she said.
They collected the check for $199,572.30 after taxes on Sept. 30 at the lottery headquarters in Louisville. They plan to pay off student loans and invest in their future with the winnings.
