LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A woman and an LMPD officer were sent to the hospital after a crash Monday night on the Gene Snyder Freeway.
LMPD spokesman Aaron Ellis said the crash happened around 10:00 p.m. near the Westport Road exit in the northbound lanes.
Two LMPD officers were helping a driver stranded on the side of the interstate with their flashing lights on. While they were assisting the driver, one of the cruisers was rear-ended by a woman.
The woman was also traveling northbound, Ellis said, and claimed she did not see the LMPD cruiser, even though the emergency lights were flashing. The officer was inside the cruiser when the crash happened.
The officer was able to get out under his own power and check on the woman who rear-ended him. Both the LMPD officer and the woman were given medical care from EMS and Anchorage Middletown Fire officials.
The LMPD officer was taken to Norton Brownsboro Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and is expected to be okay.
The woman was taken to University Hospital, also with non-life threatening injuries. Officers believe she was under the influence of alcohol when she rear-ended the police cruiser.
LMPD's Eighth Division is investigating.
