LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A long-planned development to transform a large block in Louisville's bustling NuLu neighborhood received initial approval this week.

According to a filing with Louisville Metro Planning and Design, a "shell-only permit" was approved for NuLu Crossing West. The permit allows for the construction of a "10-story multi-family building."

This is part of the larger $78 million NuLu Crossing project, which Nick Campisano's real estate investment firm Zyyo announced in 2021. The block between South Clay and South Shelby streets has been cleared of its old buildings, but construction has yet to begin.

Campisano, an investor involved in other projects downtown and in the NuLu area, told WDRB News in 2021 that he wanted to create a marquee development on East Main Street.

"We want to build something that will last for 200 to 300 years," he said at the time.

According to the development's website, NuLu Crossing West will consist of 212 residential units. The east project would add another 313 units all sitting on top of more than 62,000 square feet of first- and second-floor commercial space.

In a statement sent Friday to our partners at Louisville Business First, Campisano said more details are coming soon.

"We are currently filing plans to initiate the code review with the building department," he said. "Upon completion of that process, we will provide a comprehensive update."

NuLu Crossing West is expected to cost $30 million. No construction or completion date has been disclosed.
