LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Former Jefferson County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Lt. Col. Carl Yates will be laid to rest this week.

Yates died last Friday at the age of 86 following a battle with multiple health issues.

Visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, at Arch L. Heady & Sons funeral home on Westport Road in Louisville. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at Buechel Park Baptist Church, where Yates was a longtime member.

Yates served in the Army National Guard and went on to have a 54-year career in law enforcement with the Louisville Police Department and the sheriff's office.

He served alongside the late sheriff John Aubrey for many years, serving as a spokesperson for the sheriff's office. Aubrey passed away in September 2025 at the age of 86.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Kentucky Sheriff's Association Boys and Girls Ranch.
