LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- National Work Zone Awareness Week starts April 21, and a company that provides traffic control services is working to keep workers on Kentucky roadways safe.

There were more than 1,200 work zone crashes, resulting in 247 injuries and 17 deaths, according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

That's why Flagger Force on Thursday brought together business leaders, safety professionals, elected officials, transportation organizations, first responders and community members to discuss the importance of work zone safety.

The company specializes in providing personnel and equipment to help control traffic patterns in construction zones to prevent workers from being injured by reckless or distracted drivers.

"One reckless decision, one incident of excessive speeding, one moment of unsafe driving can lead to devastating consequences including serious injuries or death," said Luke Lazar, Flagger Force's vice president of risk and safety.

National Work Zone Awareness week continues through April 25.
