LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Division of Fire honored brave men and women who put their lives at risk to save others.
On Saturday, the department hosted its 37th annual Awards and Retirement at Louisville Slugger Field. The event gives Louisville Fire Department the opportunity to recognize and celebrate division personnel and individuals citizens for extraordinary service, accomplishments and contributions to the Louisville Division of Fire and the entire community.
"It is amazing to know that you all responded to nearly 50,000 incidents every year," said Mayor Craig Greenberg. "We all know that it doesn't matter how early or late in the day it is, how rainy or shiny it is, how cold or warm it is, you all respond and are always there."
The event also served as an opportunity to remember those who died in the line of duty.
