LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — An emergency training was held at Bellarmine University on Monday ahead of the fall semester.
It was all about emergency preparedness on college campuses.
Louisville Metro Police, Louisville EMS and Bellarmine staff participated in Active Shooter drills conducted on campus so staff and first responders could learn what to do first hand.
The emergency training involved police with guns and people on the ground, pretending to be injured.
"Bellarmine obviously never wants to be in a situation like we practiced today, but we understand that it happens," Kyle Rieber, Bellarmine's chief of Public Safety, said. "We want to be prepared, and the best defense is being prepared."
The university said it hopes to have more training like this in the future.
