LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Even as youth violence declines in Louisville, community leaders say more work is needed to keep young people safe.
Monday evening, organizers and advocates gathered for a program hosted by the League of Women Voters to discuss strategies for addressing the issue.
“We need everybody. This is a community issue,” said Dee Pregliasco, former president of the League of Women Voters of Louisville. “We’re here to educate the community and explore how we can build coalitions and work together.”
The event featured presentations from Jefferson County Public Schools, Group Violence Intervention, Metro Council and the Jefferson County Attorney’s Office.
Organizers emphasized that addressing youth violence is a complex challenge requiring collaboration across schools, law enforcement, government and community groups.
Despite data showing a decline in youth violence, Pregliasco and other organizers said statistics don’t tell the full story. They urged residents to remain involved and proactive in supporting young people.
