LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — For the first time in decades, the city of Louisville has park rangers, and the city is looking for more to join the team.

Louisville Parks and Recreation is looking for anyone passionate about community safety and the great outdoors for the part-time position. Applicants must have three full-time years of law enforcement to be considered for the position.

The city recently hired its first park ranger after the Park Ranger program was dissolved in the 1970s. During that time, park rangers patrolled in green-painted police cars, offering assistance to visitors.

The new park rangers will work alongside Louisville Metro Police and other agencies as sworn public safety officers.

To be considered for the position, an applicant must have three years of full-time law enforcement experience, a valid POPS (Police Office Professional Standards) Certificate, a high school diploma or GED and must be 21 years of age.

The minimum hourly pay for park rangers is $32.96, but previous law enforcement experience will be taken into account when determining the final salary offer.
