LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Two people are dead and several others are injured after several shootings across Louisville on Wednesday night.

Louisville Metro Police are not the only ones trying to stop violent crime.

LMPD are obviously working the cases but there are also people who were once part of the problem now using mentoring programs and events, like an upcoming gala at Louisville Slugger Museum, to change lives.

"Even though I committed Black on Black crime myself, I thank God for resurrecting me and showing me all lives matter," Tod Moore said.

For years, Moore was admittedly on the wrong side of the law. He was in prison for 26 and a half years and tried for the death penalty.

In prison, Moore found Jesus and his mission in life.

"My mission has been to break the cycle and change the culture within the west end of Louisville, Kentucky and beyond," Moore said.

It's a cycle that continued with multiple shootings on Wednesday evening.

Including a fatal on Lynnhurst Avenue in the Iroquois neighborhood. A woman at the scene, who doesn't want to be identified, shared how she helped the victims.

"I pulled his shorts off cause they were down to his ankles and used that to put pressure on his back," she said. "The other one was bleeding from his knee."

"It grieves me," Moore said. "But it makes me go harder and harder and harder."

When Moore says "go harder," he's talking about the organization he founded called New Day Ministries and events like a recent Love Walk in the Russell Neighborhood.

"And we had 65 individuals that don't come to the west end of Louisville, but because they partner with us and New Day Ministers they showed up and showed out," he said.

Later this month, the organization is hosting the Home Run For Hope Gala to raise money for mentoring programs.

"Education and entrepreneurship is what we're based on," Moore said.

And Moore has a message for some of the people he hasn't been able to educate or reach.

"I used to be part of the problem," he said. "And I prayed for opportunity to be part of the solution. You too can be part of solution."
