LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police said the recovery of an officer shot while on patrol in the city's Chickasaw neighborhood has been "encouraging."
Officer Brandon Haley was shot in the abdomen and critically wounded Sept. 7 at 38th and West Kentucky streets. LMPD said Haley was attempting to catch up to a car that didn't have lights on. He got out of his car and radioed back that two subjects were running from the scene. As he ran toward their car, the body camera footage shows Haley stumble to the ground as more than 15 shots ring out.
LMPD said Thursday "thanks to recent improvements in his medical results," he has overcome an obstacle and is now making "positive strides."
The update went on to say Haley is steadily improving both physically and mentally every day. The next step in his recovery is physical therapy.
Haley's family is asking for continued thoughts and prayers during his recovery.
Three men were indicted in the shooting in November, nearly three months after it happened. Dominique Thompson was indicted on a slew of charges, including attempted murder of a police officer, trafficking in controlled substances, resisting arrest and more. Jaquan Random was indicted on possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and resisting arrest. Jemond Groves was indicted on possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and third-degree criminal trespassing.Â
Quantez Porter and Demarco Coney Jr. were also arrested in connection to the shooting.
LMPD released body camera video of the shooting about two weeks after it happened. Haley was released from the hospital nearly three weeks later and has been continuing recovery at home.
