LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Louisville Zoo is celebrating its first-ever colobus monkey birth.
Ate, who's 5 years old, gave birth to a healthy infant Sunday morning.
The gender isn't known yet.
"This birth is an exciting milestone for our Zoo as well as the culmination of a careful multi-year process, Dan Maloney, the zoo's director, said in a news release Tuesday. "We are thrilled to share this new addition with our "community thanks to the dedication of our animal care team.”
The zoo said the father, 12-year-old "Dr. Sheldon Cooper," and other females in the troop are sharing in babysitting duties.
Colobus monkeys are native to the African rainforest canopy.
Zoo guests may spot the newborn in both the indoor and outdoor areas of Colobus Crossing.
