LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Louisville Zoo has a new member.

Chrys, a maned wolf, came to Louisville from Wichita, Kansas.

Zoo officials said these animals are usually solitary creatures in the wild, so Chrys is living in his own habitat while he gets adjusted to his new environment.

When he's more comfortable, zoo keepers plan to introduce him to a female wolf for breeding.

"The return of maned wolves to the zoo's habitat is a wonderful addition, and we invite everyone to come see him and learn more about these unique animals," Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg said in a news release.

Chrys will celebrate his 8th birthday on Nov. 27. He can be seen at the zoo any day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Zoo officials said Chrys is a "curious yet cautious" maned wolf, known for his intelligence. His keepers said he enjoys his puzzle feeder enrichment and playing with a ball.

The maned wolf is native to South America and is found in Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru and Uruguay.
