LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man died at the hospital Monday after crashing his vehicle near Fern Creek this weekend.
The single-vehicle accident happened just after 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Bardstown Road and Race Road, Louisville Metro Police Department Spokesperson Aaron Ellis said in a statement. That's south of Fern Creek, near Old Bardstown and Fairmount roads.
After speaking with witnesses and processing the scene, investigators believe the man was headed southbound on Bardstown Road in the fast lane when he lost control of his vehicle, which spun out of control and hit several trees, Ellis said.
Along with LMPD, Fern Creek Fire and EMS crews were sent to the scene to assist. Police said the man had to be extricated from the vehicle by firefighters. EMS took him to University of Louisville Hospital with critical injuries.
Ellis said the man died from his injuries sometime Monday. His identity has not yet been released by the Jefferson County Coroner's Office.
LMPD's Traffic Unit is handling the investigation. Ellis said no other vehicles were involved.
