SCOTTSBURG, Ind. (WDRB) -- Once a year, the southern Indiana city of Scottsburg turns into the beloved fictional town of Mayberry for three days.
The second annual "Mayberry Comes to Scottsburg" festival this weekend featured Mayberry tribute artists, special guests, and even cast members from the "Andy Griffith Show."
The festival takes place primarily in the city's Courthouse Square Historic District, which becomes the fictional town of Mayberry where America got to know Sheriff Andy Taylor, Deputy Barney Fife and Gomer Pyle.
There was a VIP meet and greet dinner, a parade and a car show, as well as screenings of the movie "Mayberry Man."
"In this day and age, people have got to smile more and laugh more, and that is what we do," Mayberry tribute artist Terry Varvel said. "We just like people to have a good time and remembering things, a simpler time. The 'Andy Griffith Show' as shown in the 1960s, and it has never been off the air."
Don Knotts' daughter, Karen, and Andy Griffith's daughter, Dixie, also made appearances at this year's event.
