Mayor Greenberg declares this week will honor EMS in Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Louisville Metro EMS is taking the spotlight this week.

Mayor Craig Greenberg announced Monday that May 17-23 is EMS Week, honoring the emergency services professionals who provide health care across the city.

The celebration is part of a nationwide observance to recognize the role EMS plays in emergency response and community health.

"Our EMS professionals are there for their neighbors in the greatest times of need," Greenberg said. "From launching a whole blood pre-hospital transfusion program that is already saving lives in the field to graduating the largest EMT academy in more than a decade, these incredible public servants continue to step up their efforts. Louisville is safer, stronger and healthier for it, and we’re honored to celebrate them and show our gratitude."

The city's emergency services include a wide range of roles from pre-hospital medical care to on-scene lifesaving assistance, and dispatch services.
