LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Mt. Washington Police Department has fired its chief.

Chief Marcus Laytham said his termination is effective July 1, but it's unclear why.

Laytham was appointed in February 2023 and had only been with the department for a little over a year, but worked at the Louisville Metro Police Department for 25 years. He also worked at the Bullitt County Sheriff's Office before his time with LMPD.

His termination comes months after officers started pushing for a collective bargaining agreement in Mt. Washington.

Mayor Stuart Owen reportedly named Lt. Col. Dan Kelty as interim chief of Mt. Washington police, but has not yet responded to a request for comment.
