LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- City officials unveiled recently completed renovations Monday at Berrytown Park and Recreation Center.

The nearly $600,000 investment funded major improvements at the park in eastern Jefferson County. The park now has a new American with Disabilities accessible playground, fresh pavement to connect a walking path and an upgraded basketball court with new goals.

"Berrytown Park is a hidden gem that sits on just more than 24 acres with several amenities including ballfields and tennis courts,” Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg said in a news release. "With this investment into yet another one of our city’s incredible parks, the people of the Berrytown neighborhood will have even more unique opportunities to be active while enjoying new and upgraded amenities."

The new playground features a jungle gym, slides, poured-in-place surfacing for a companion swing and an interactive glider for wheelchair users.

"Berrytown Park is located just outside of our Berrytown Adaptive and Inclusive Recreation Center, which offers specialized programming and resources for those with physical and intellectual disabilities," Louisville Parks and Recreation executive director Michelle King said in a news release. "We are excited to align Berrytown Park with this nearby recreation center by installing new features that can be enjoyed by people of all abilities."

Additionally, a new HVAC system was installed in Berrytown Recreation Center as part of the improvements.
