The LUCAS machine eliminates the risks posed by human error and fatigue.
Joe Rose, AmeriPro Health director of operations, said the machine can deliver consistent compressions for as long as 30 minutes.
"Anytime that blood is not flowing, you're going to see an increased risk for brain death, so having consistent chest compressions completed lowers that dramatically," Rose said.
LUCAS also buys time and frees up first responders to perform other life-saving measures like starting an IV and giving medications.
The machines will be on all three AmeriPro EMS ambulances in the New Albany area.
The LUCAS machine was invented in Sweden. The acronym stands for the Lund University Cardiopulmonary Assist System.
