LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An off-duty Louisville Metro Police officer was seriously injured after a crash Tuesday night involving a semi-truck.

The crash happened around 11 p.m. at the intersection of Fern Valley Road and Roederer Drive, according to LMPD spokesperson Sgt. Matthew Sanders.

Officers arrived on scene to find an F-150 and a semi-truck that were involved in a crash. The F-150 was being driven by an off-duty LMPD officer and he had to be extracted from the vehicle.

The officer was taken to University Hospital with serious injuries, Sanders said. The semi-truck driver is expected to be OK.

LMPD's Traffic Unit is leading the investigation.
