LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Officials with Oldham County Schools have approved a 1.5% tax hike that they say will generate another $4.3 million annually, primarily to support virtual learning.
The Oldham County Board of Education approved the hike by a 4-1 vote on Thursday.
The district said it plans to use $2.5 million of the additional dollars for COVID-19-related instruction, including technology and the Virtual Learning Academy. Another $1.2 million will go toward salary increases.
The school board has pushed the tax rate to 80 centers per $100 of assessed valuation, up from 78.8 cents previously. The hike will cost taxpayers an additional $12 per year per $100,000 in property value, the school district said in a news release.
