LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man was hit and killed on Interstate 65 near hospital curve early Friday morning after reportedly trying to run across the southbound lanes.

According to LMPD spokesman John Bradley, the accident was reported around 4:45 a.m. The man was reportedly moving west to east crossing the lanes of traffic when he was hit by a semi-truck traveling in the southbound lanes.

After being hit by the truck, several other cars were unable to avoid the man's body in the roadway.

All southbound lanes of I-65 opened back up around 9 a.m. after several hours of cleanup.

LMPD's Traffic Unit is investigating. It is unknown why the man was on the interstate at the time of the accident.
