LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A police K-9 killed in the line of duty was honored in Shepherdsville on Thursday.

A memorial monument was dedicated to remember K-9 Dash. Dash was shot and killed in March 2022 while chasing a shoplifting suspect who fired at police.

The City of Shepherdsville said it is forever grateful for K-9 Dash's sacrifice. His partner and K-9 handler, Jeff Schank, said Dash was the perfect dog.

"When he went to work he knew he was a work dog," Schank said. "He knew it was time to work. There was no playing around with him. But when he was at home he was the perfect pet." 

The monument is at the Shepherdsville Government Center.
