LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 46-year-old man who died after a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 64 in St. Matthews last weekend was identified Friday, and police are looking for the driver that hit him and left him for dead.
Anthony R. Welch Sr. from Shelbyville died at the scene of the crash. It happened around 11:40 p.m. March 1 on I-64 East, on an overpass between Cannons Lane and Breckenridge Lane, according to the Jefferson County Coroner's Office.
"At this point, St Matthews police are asking for any information that you may have during that time, that you may have seen this individual walking, or seen anything else that may pertain to this case," St. Matthews Police Chief Barry Wilkerson said.
The cause of death was listed as blunt force trauma, but the manner of death was pending, according to the coroner's initial report.
Wilkerson confirmed Welch was killed by a hit-and-run driver.
"We know there was an altercation that took place downtown with the individuals that were in this car," Chief Wilkerson said. "But basically, it appears they got back into that vehicle. Things had calmed down at that point, they were taking him home. There was another altercation near the Cannons Lane, Breckinridge Lane area on I 64 eastbound."
He said the investigation is ongoing, and if you know more information, contact police at 502-893-9000.
