LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A bill aimed at increasing financial transparency in school districts passed the Kentucky Senate.

Senate Bill 3 would overhaul how districts report spending by requiring districts to "maintain a district financial disclosure website."

The website would include monthly financial reports, vendor payments, credit card statements and superintendent pay in one centralized location on district websites.

The legislation comes as Jefferson County Public Schools faces an estimated $188 million budget shortfall, with $142 million in proposed cuts coming in next year's district budget.

Right now, JCPS does have a public finance dashboard that meets some of those requirements, including showing vendor payments. However, it does not include monthly financial reports or credit card statements.

The bill still needs to pass the House before it would be sent to Gov. Andy Beshear's desk.
