LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A portion of the Ohio River has reopened in Trimble County after severe weather caused powerlines to fall into the water.

The U.S. Coast Guard closed a two-mile stretch of the river Thursday to all vessel traffic and said the line, owned by the Indiana and Kentucky Electric Cooperative, came down into the navigable channel. 

Trimble County Emergency Management said in a post on Facebook the river near mile marker 560 was closed, telling boaters to avoid the area of the IKEC Power plant. That's in the area of Madison, Indiana, and Milton, Kentucky.

It says six electric transmission lines fell into the river during the storms Wednesday and Thursday.

Trimble County Emergency Management posted on Facebook Friday announcing the last of the six transmission lines were moved to the bank of the river and the waterway was reopened.
