CORYDON, Ind. (WDRB) — A women's recovery home in Corydon is expanding to meet the need.

"We just want to continue to see people get a second chance," said Meghan Stockdale, executive director of Genesis House.

Genesis House was founded in 2020. It has helped more than 200 women on their addiction recovery journey in Harrison County, Indiana.

"A majority of the women come in here, they don't even own a toothbrush," Stockdale said. "They come as they are."

It can house up to 30 women at a time for an average of six to nine months.

"We don't really have a timeline on it," Stockdale said. "We allow them to stay until they're fully ready because our goal is for them to continue to be successful."

She said the organization bought an old church on North Capitol Avenue. The goal is to transform the space and expand to offer services to mothers with toddlers.

"It's going to offer a recovery engagement center where all of our graduated and members can come back they can hangout," Stockdale said. "They can meet with their sponsors. They can plug back into classes. Anything that they might need for their recovery — they would have 24/7 access to the space, the room, and the certified staff to help them."

She said it will also add 21 beds and get more women off Genesis House's waitlist. Stockdale said the overall project costs $776,000.

An official opening date has not been set yet. On June 13, Stockdale said Genesis House still needs roughly $200,000 to complete the project.

"I get up every day to advocate for these women," she said. "There is hope. They can get better. People can move past the mistakes of their past."
