LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Taylor County High School’s Sydney Newton got the surprise of a lifetime Tuesday: a $25,000 national Milken Educator Award.
Students, staff and local leaders watched as Dr. Jane Foley, senior vice president of the Milken Educator Awards, traveled from California to announce the honor.
Newton is Kentucky’s 64th Milken Educator and the first-ever recipient from Taylor County School District.
Education Commissioner Dr. Robbie Fletcher praised her impact.
“Her presence in the classroom and in the community elevates those around her. She is a shining example of what it means to be ‘All in,’” Fletcher said.
Newton’s dedication extends beyond the classroom, mentoring students and new teachers, supporting clubs and programs, and helping develop curriculum at Taylor County High School.
