Oldham County Courthouse project delayed

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — After nearly four years of construction, a new expansion to the historic Oldham County Courthouse is complete.

The temporary courthouse on Central Avenue in Crestwood will be closed through Friday, Feb. 27, as court business transitions to the newly-renovated Oldham County Judicial Center on Main Street in LaGrange.

Court proceedings and other functions, including those in circuit court, will be suspended until the new center's opening.

Construction on the judicial center expansion wrapped up in January after several years. The project started in 2022, and faced some delays amid rising costs. The original 6,300-square-foot courthouse was raised and moved 44 feet backward, 22 feet west and 75 feet south to a new foundation.

The moving project included some demolition and the construction of a new 50,000-square-foot addition. The courthouse sits centered in front of the addition, which also includes increased security.

Officials said court schedules and phone numbers will remain the same as those at the temporary courthouse.

Built in the 1800s, records show the historic Oldham County Judicial Center was the second oldest standing courthouse in Kentucky, but the building was decaying.

The new judicial center is scheduled to open March 2, with a dedication ceremony scheduled for April 30.
