LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Norton Healthcare's Prevention & Wellness Mobile Primary Care is now making weekly stops at the Goodwill Opportunity Center on E. Broadway.
"It's more personal," Amanda Dewees, a Norton Healthcare Nurse Practitioner, said. "People come in, we sit, we chat, and they follow up with me."
The Mobile Primary Care vehicle will be set up at the Goodwill located at 909 E. Broadway, near S. Campbell Street, every Wednesday starting in May. Patients can make appointments, but walk-ins are also welcome.
"This is convenient because sometimes I don't make it to my doctor," Patricia Reed said after her appointment.
The mobile unit has two exam rooms, a waiting area and a medication room. It's an accessible option for people like Reed, who doesn't have a car. She walked four miles to get to the clinic.
"I don't mind walking," Reed said. "It's more exercise for me."
Reed came to get a blood pressure screening and check on her eczema. She says the wait was less than 10 minutes.
"A lot quicker than the doctor's office," she said.
Norton hopes this unit meets people where they're at to offer help with minor injuries, vaccines, diabetes screenings and more.
"It'll really free up the emergency rooms for true emergencies and help people be able to stay healthy," Dewees said.
Reed now encourages others to put their health first and visit the mobile clinic, even if it's not on a Wednesday.
The Mobile Primary Care unit is also available at the following locations:
- Mondays at NIA Center, 2900 W. Broadway
- Tuesdays and Thursdays at Jefferson Green, 3010 Jefferson Green Drive (near Jefferson Mall)
The mobile medical unit is just one resource available at the Goodwill on E. Broadway. There are lots of other resources available, making the opportunity center a one-stop shop for everything from health to housing and employment resources. Such resources include the Last Mile to Work program, which collects and repairs broken bicycles to give to people who have no transportation to work.
