The department is currently accepting applications for qualified traffic guards, and it narrows down candidates through a stringent hiring process.
Bob Nill, 88, who children at Christ the King Catholic School called "Mr. Bob," was managing traffic for two boys, ages 7 and 11, when he told them to stop for a speeding vehicle, the school's principal said.
The ordinance passed out of a council committee on Wednesday and now heads to the full Metro Council for a vote.
