Police said no arrested have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
The shooting happened about 12:50 am. Monday on Blackwell Road just north of Midland Trail in Shelbyville, according to Shelby County Coroner Jeff Ivers.
Jessica Hager, 40, was shot and killed by a man who used to date her sister-in-law, according to police.
The Shelby County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
The Shelby County Sheriff's Office responded on a crash at the intersection of Elmburg Road and Benson Pike just after 7:30 p.m.
Police said 32-year-old Michael Hunt told investigators "he had a job to take both females out and that he had shot both victims in the head."
Michael Hunt, 32, of Shelbyville, was arrested and charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder.
Police found more than 2.5 pounds of meth, nearly 12 grams of cocaine, half a pound of marijuana and pressed fentanyl pills and heroin.
The Shelby County Sheriff's Office said he was found after about two hours on the run.
According to court documents, 34-year-old Derick Taylor was taken arrested by deputies with the Shelby County Sheriff's Office just before 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
