Metro Corrections is taking new steps to hire more employees, recruiting both sworn and civilian positions.

Louisville Metro Corrections underwent a large scale jail search focused on drug and contraband detection on Tuesday.

After finding the inmate, the officer and medical staff "immediately started lifesaving efforts."

It's titled "Safer Control Options," and one of the pressure points listed is the jugular.

No reason has been provided for the suspension.

The jail population reached it's lowest ever average population in 2020 with 1250 inmates but the number is climbing once again and corrections officers worry there isn't enough staff to deal with the increase.

Durham says all corrections officers are trained on de-escalation techniques.
