BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WDRB) — The city of Bloomington is full of excitement after Indiana University defeated Miami on Monday night to become undefeated national champions.

No matter where you went Tuesday in Bloomington, everyone was talking about the game, with businesses happy and students tired.

Andy Scott and his family came up from New Albany on Tuesday to get a feel of post-championship vibes in Bloomington.

"My wife and I are alums here and we said if we win the national championship we want to be a part of it," Scott said. "Couldn’t make it down to Miami for the game but the next best thing is to come to Bloomington after the victory."

Scott and his family were not alone in their quest for championship merch. Posters were gone in minutes and more than 1,000 t-shirts had been sold in the morning with supplies coming in throughout the day.

Thousands of fans gathered in the streets Monday night near campus for celebrations. While a couch and a chair were set on fire in the road, Bloomington Police said they had no major issues or significant arrests.

Students had a very tired start to their Tuesday, especially the ones who tried to go to class.

"Two of mine got cancelled and then one I just missed," freshman Lola Lomax said.

Victor San Jose said he didn't go to bed until around 4 a.m. but that it was "100% worth it."

While fans were wearing red, Bloomington businesses were seeing green.

"Monday we were slammed from the moment we opened at 11 a.m. until about an hour before the game," Jaybo Lewis, with Mother Bear's Pizza, said.

Fans are already looking forward to next season.

"I still kind of woke up thinking was that a dream," Scott said. "Never in my life did I think IU football would win a national championship, basketball, sure, but here we are."

The university is planning a championship celebration in Bloomington on Saturday, Jan. 24, at 1 p.m.
